Through a series of writing prompts, we’ll explore the various components of short fiction--exposition, dialogue, point-of-view, style, character and plot development, etc.
Each week participants write a short, assigned piece which we’ll read and discuss in class. These exercises are designed to spark the imagination and hone the craft of writing fiction, and are suitable for beginning writers or those further along.
We'll also do a close reading of a few great short stories, to glean what we can about what makes this elusive form work. Repeat or advanced students will have the option of bringing their own finished stories into the workshop for discussion.
