Come join us on Zoom for the Feminist Caucus Book Launch, 2025, to celebrate the new books published by members of the Feminist Caucus of the League of Canadian Poets this year! Sonja Greckol (No Line in Time), Beatriz Hausner (The Oh Oh), Fatima-Ayan Malika Hirsi (Dreams for Earth), Mary Simmerling (In Plain Sight), and Bänoo Zan (Woman Life Freedom) will each read for 10-15 minutes, including performances by special guests. A question period will be held at the end. Buy the books ahead of time to prepare your questions for these fabulous poets! Links to buy the books are included below, under Reader Bios.

READER BIOS:
SONJA GRECKOL lives in Tkaronto/Toronto and is grateful for subways, LRTs and bike lanes wherever. No Hay Linea En El Tiempo is translated from her No Line In Time (2018) by Eduardo Padilla (Mexico) and published by Miguel H A Coletti, Manofalsa Editores (Lima/Mexico City.) Previously Greckol has published Monitoring Station (2023), Skein of Days (2014) and Gravity Matters (2008) in Canada. Monitoring Station (2023) was listed for the Alberta Book Publishers Robert Kroetsch Award and No Line In Time was listed for the LCP Raymond P. Souster Award, 2018. She is the founding poetry editor of Women and Environments International. Her translation of Rosío Cerón’s ‘Trances’ appeared in Jan 2025 Asymptote Journal.

BEATRIZ HAUSNER has published several poetry collections, including, Enter the Raccoon, Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart and She Who Lies Above, as well as many chapbooks, of which The Oh Oh, is the latest. Her books have been published internationally and translated into several languages, most recently Greek. Hausner is an active participant in the surrealist movement.

FATIMA-AYAN MALIKA HIRSI is a Black mother who spends time with forests and waters on unceded lands of the T’Sou-ke Nation. Her work strives to instigate action in service to world-building, social change, and collaboration. Her first full-length poetry collection, DREAMS FOR EARTH, arrived this fall from Deep Vellum. MARY SIMMERLING, Ph.D., is a poet, philosopher, and scholar committed to social justice and ending violence. Author of In Plain Sight: How the Epistemology of Ignorance Normalizes Gender-Based Violence, she weaves poetry, philosophy, and art to confront silencing, complicity, and erasure while fostering community through survivor-centred writing workshops and publications.

BÄNOO ZAN is a poet and curator with over 300 published pieces and three books. She is the founder of Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night), Canada’s most diverse and brave poetry reading and open mic series. Bänoo is the recipient of the 2025 Writers’ Union of Canada Freedom to Read Award.

CY STROM works as an editor. He holds MA and MPhil degrees in early modern European history and has published in academic and other areas, including the visual arts. The Feminist Caucus of the League of Canadian Poets strongly and uncompromisingly champions the rights of those who identify as women and/or feminists in Canada and worldwide. Our mandate is to celebrate, promote, and support women’s creativity within the League of Canadian Poets and beyond. We oppose systemic misogyny, anti-feminist traditions, and rights-restrictive cultural relativism and commit to take action against any infringement of women's rights and their creative work. The Feminist Caucus respects and advocates for equality and freedom of expression in its practices and membership.
