CCBC Announces Robert Munsch's Mortimer for TD Grade One Book Giveaway
This September, Canadian Grade One students will each receive a copy of Robert Munsch's classic Mortimer (Annick Press) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the TD Grade One Book Giveaway.
The Canadian Children's Book Centre, who made the announcement, said of the choice:
“With so many uncertainties in our current world, one of the few things that we can be sure of is the power of stories to heal, to make us laugh, and to foster a sense of connection with each other. It is exciting to be able to introduce this Canadian children’s favourite to a whole new generation of young readers who will fall in love with this joyful story."
In partnership with TD Bank Group, the CCBC plan to distribute 550,000 copies of the book Canada-wide. Braille versions will also be included with the help of the CNIB Foundation. French students can expect their copy of Le dodo de Mortimer (Éditions Scholastic), translated by Christiane Duchesne.
Mortimer, illustrated by Michael Martchenko, tells the story of a little boy who absolutely refuses to go to sleep. It has sold 1.5 million copies since it's original release in 1983.
