Featured Video: Max Eisen on his Taylor Prize Nominated Book By Chance Alone
Max Eisen is the author of By Chance Alone: A Remarkable True Story of Courage and Survival at Auschwitz (HarperCollins Canada), nominated for the 2017 RBC Taylor Prize for Non-Fiction. The harrowing memoir is not only a story of Eisen's remarkable survival in the infamous Nazi death camp, but also of the long, slow (and indeed, life-long) process of healing following the survivors' liberation.
Eisen himself came perilously close to death after being beaten by a guard, but was rescued by Polish political prisoner and physician, Tadeusz Orzeszko, who operated on him and gave him a job as a cleaner in the makeshift hospital's OR.
We're proud to present, courtesy of the RBC Taylor Prize, an original interview with Eisen, who speaks candidly and movingly about his experiences and writing the memoir. A portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated by Eisen to charities that promote tolerance and understanding.
