League of Canadian Poets Announces Theme, Event Information for National Poetry Month 2020
We're getting closer to April, which also means we're getting closer to National Poetry Month!
The League of Canadian Poets have formally announced that this year's theme will be "A World of Poetry". Organizers are hoping the theme will inspire participants to explore poetry from all over the globe, gaining an appreciation and understanding of how poetry is expressed in different cultures as well as the profound cultural and political impact it has around the world. There's a lot going on over the month, but here are some important dates to remember:
The winner of the 4th annual Broadsheet Contest will be announced on World Poetry Day, Saturday, March 21.
Wednesday, April 1 will welcome the announcement of the 2020 Annual Book Awards longlist, including the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, The Pat Lowther Memorial Award, and the Raymond Souster Award. The shortlist will be revealed on Tuesday, April 21.
In addition, Thursday, April 30 will mark the return of Poem in Your Pocket Day, which encourages lovers of poetry to keep a poem in their pocket and share it with others over the next 24 hours.
