Encampment: Resistance, Grace, and an Unhoused Community, by 2025 Toronto Book Award winner Maggie Helwig, chronicles the encampment that formed on the grounds of St. Stephen-in-the-Fields Church during Toronto’s housing crisis. Blending memoir, urban history and social critique, Helwig – an Anglican priest and activist – offers an unflinching look at systemic failures and the resilience of those forced to live outdoors.
By the Lake Book Club hosts six Tuesday-night events from February to December with top Canadian authors and Humber Polytechnics alumni. Each in-person event features readings, discussions, Q&A, book signings and ASL interpretation, while virtual sessions include live subtitles and audio access.
