New York Times bestselling author Jean Kwok discusses her twisting, suspenseful, and poignant new novel at the North York Central Library Concourse, TPL's new premiere event space for cultural and heritage programming.

In The Leftover Woman—which will soon be adapted into a TV series by the production house behind Severance—we meet two unforgettable women on a shocking collision course. Jasmine Yang arrives in New York City from her rural Chinese village without money or family support, fleeing a controlling husband, on a desperate search for the daughter who was taken from her at birth - another female casualty of China's controversial One Child Policy.

Meanwhile, publishing executive Rebecca Whitney seems to have it all: a prestigious family name, a high-powered career, a handsome husband, and an adopted Chinese daughter she adores. But when an industry scandal threatens to jeopardize not only Rebecca's job but her marriage, this perfect world begins to crumble and her role in her own family is called into question.

Jean Kwok speaks with journalist and author Angela Misri (The Detective and the Spy) about The Leftover Woman, an evocative family drama and a riveting mystery about the ferocious pull of motherhood for two very different women.

Q&A and book signing to follow.
