Calls Across the Pacific tells the story of Nina Huang who flees the Cultural Revolution to America in 1969. Years later, she writes to denounce Mao’s regime. As a Canadian freelance writer, she risks her freedom and life to interview her contemporaries in China. She is apprehended in a labour camp, but escapes with the help of her friends.

Author: Zoë S. Roy writes literary fiction with a focus on women’s cross-cultural experiences. She is the author of Butterfly Tears, The Long March Home and Calls Across the Pacific by Inanna Publications. Spinster Kang is forthcoming in 2018. She holds an M.Ed. in Adult Education from the University of New Brunswick and taught for the Toronto Public School Board for years.
