The Word on the Street Offers Up Weekly Streaming Literary Events for an At-Home "WOTS" Experience
The pandemic has created a very different landscape for literary events, and a lot of organizations have responded by evolving in creative ways, finding methods of bringing the buzz and connection of an in-person reading or panel to us as we stay safe at home.
The Word on the Street is one such organization. WOTS, as they're fondly known to book lovers, is of course known for their annual outdoor festival of author readings, panels, workshops, and book and magazine sales, but the organization has expanded their programming significantly to include year-round events in order to bring those experiences to people at home.
With new streaming weekly events (as well as a "Summer Spectacular" programme aimed at kids and teens), it's a great way to connect with other readers, learn about new writers or hear from your faves, and get writing and publishing tips.
Check out The Word on the Street Toronto YouTube channel to see past events and to tune into live streams. You can learn more about the weekly feature streams on their website and even sign up to stay in the loop.
Previous weekly events include appearances from authors Nathan Niigan Noodin Adler and Sarah Dowling, and themed and group events like "Indigenous LitSpace" and "DIY Chapbooks with the League of Canadian Poets". From authors chatting with their editors to magazine publishers walking readers through the behind the scenes process, there are events for every literary interest.
