Trillium Book Award 30th Anniversary Readings

This year the Trillium Book Award celebrates its 30th anniversary, and the Ontario Media Development Corporation had organized a series of readings to commemorate this important milestone for one of Canada's most prestigious literary prizes. There will be readings held in Peterborough, Guelph, Toronto, and Ottawa, with guest authors attending from across Ontario. All of the attending authors are Trillium winners or finalists from past years. 

The Trillium Book Award was created in 1987, "to recognize a book of literary excellence which furthers the understanding of Ontarians and Ontario society," and to support Ontario's publishing industry and writing communities. The inaugural Trillium went to Michael Ondaatje, for In the Skin of a Lion, and following winners included literary luminaries such as: Alice Munro, Margaret Atwood, Timothy Findley, Jane Urquhart, Dionne Brand, André Alexis, Alistair MacLeod, Thomas King, and many more. Since 1994, the award has expanded to include French and English language works, and, in 2003, there were French and English language awards given to an overall winner, and the best work of poetry by an Ontario author. 

Starting this Thursday, March 2017, the Trillium Book Award 30th Anniversary Readings will land in Peterborough, Ontario, hosted by Trent University. Among the visiting readers are Peterborough authors Andrew Forbes, Janette Platana, and Caroline Durand, all 2016 finalists. They will be joined by Jeramy Dodds, Rabindranath Maharaj, and 2016 winner, Kevin Hardcastle.

All of the events are free and open to the public. So, everyone is encouraged to come by and see some of Ontario's best authors read from their work.

Be Part of Ontario’s Celebration!

To celebrate this occasion we are hosting a series of author readings by several previous winners and last year’s finalists.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and Readings will begin at 7:00 p.m. These readings are free and open to the public but we do ask that you register for attendance. Readings will take place on the following dates:

March 27, 2017 – Toronto
April 25, 2017 – Toronto
May 3, 2017 - Ottawa
